Penn State Public Policy Association

Penn State Public Policy Association

We aim to promote the development of Penn State students as scholars and future professionals in the field of public policy.  As part of this mission, the Association provides a forum for support, discussion, scholarship, social networking, and professional development for those interested in public policy.

The Penn State Public Policy Journal remains the flagship student-run publication of the Public Policy Association at Penn State (PPAPS), offering a platform for students from diverse academic disciplines to engage with today’s most pressing policy challenges.

Volume 3 features original student research and policy recommendations that span domestic and international issues. This edition addresses critical topics, such as healthcare access, immigration policy, military family welfare, educational equity, criminal justice, housing inequality, and emerging energy solutions. Under the co-editorship of Xiomara Larkin and Shahid Khan, this edition represents the collaborative efforts of Master of Public Policy students, undergraduate contributors from across the university, and faculty mentors from the Penn State School of Public Policy.

The Penn State Public Policy Journal, which is the Association’s flagship publication, offers Penn State students the opportunity to publish original public policy analysis and research, and to share recommended policy approaches with a wider audience.

This entirely student-run publication exposes students to the process of writing for an academic audience and accepting and revising writing based on peer feedback.

Volume 2 of the Penn State Public Policy Journal covers topics such as international political conflict, disparities in student loan debt, and demographic options in affordable housing.

The inaugural issue of the Penn State Public Policy Journal was published in the spring of 2023. The Journal is a student-led publication founded in 2022 by several Master of Public Policy (MPP) students at the Penn State School of Public Policy. The Journal is currently published by the Penn State Public Policy Association (PSPPA), a registered student organization based at the Penn State University Park campus.

The Journal’s mission is to offer Penn State students from any Penn State program the opportunity to publish original public policy analysis and research and share recommended policy approaches with a broader audience. It hopes to encourage students to think critically and creatively about some of society’s biggest challenges and, in turn, produce and share high-quality, nuanced research.
